After attention over the winter in the works at Buckfastleigh, everyone was working hard to outshop 5542 in time for the first weekend of the West Somerset Railway Spring Steam Gala. 5542 has been retyred over the winter as well as having attention to motion and axleboxes and work on the auto gear. It passed its steam test during the week and was out on test between Buckfastleigh and Staverton on Friday before being moved on to Bishops Lydeard by John Antell whose lorry was ready and waiting. For the gala it will be wearing a BR smokebox numberplate and 83B shedplate.
