The SOUTH DEVON RAILWAY can provide a complete steam train travel experience, given that we have connections at both ends of the line.  Whilst many visitors may still be happy with a return trip on the railway, as we are connected to Totnes a whole host of possibilities are available for your day out.

Most visitors take the return trip on the railway from Buckfastleigh where we have extensive free car and coach parking facilities. Our which runs on most operating days is available to transport you to and from Buckfast Abbey and Buckfastleigh Town Centre.

At Buckfastleigh we are also near to the Buckfast Butterfly Farm and Otter Sanctuary as well as the world famous Buckfast Abbey.  A combined ticket is available covering train travel and entrance to the Buckfast Butterflies and Otter Sanctuary.

From Totnes our station is a gentle 20 minute walk from the centre of the town. Adjacent to our Totnes (Littlehempston) station is the Totnes Rare Breed farm where children can enjoy meeting and cuddling the friendly animals.

Totnes is a historic town where you can easily enjoy a few hours looking around the many interesting shops, studying the various old buildings, such as the Guild Hall and Totnes Castle.  There are many tea rooms and pubs which look after the inner self.

The "RiverRail" package (For group bookings only), run in association with the local ferry company Dart Pleasure Craft from Totnes, is very popular.  Please note that because of the tidal nature of the River Dart below Totnes the return "River Rail" trip is not available every day. Please contact Buckfastleigh Station for the days that the return trip is available, it should also be noted that due to the constraints on working hours and the tides the return train service from Totnes may be diesel hauled.  Your journey may start from either Buckfastleigh or Dartmouth.
